The Summer Project
I spent the summer of 2016 making photographs with which I could later re-process high dynamic tonal ranges, textural details, and color saturation. The plan was to hint at the feeling of master paintings. I worked for a painterly and earthy quality to emerge. A warm summer light became a common thread. I also discovered I can show the natural fleshiness of the body in tune with the peaceful curiosities of growing trees, streams carving through the forest, and odd ‘relics’ in decay. People go to nature (and place) in search of happy, calm, and/or wonder and are very unnatural while there. What it would look like to go to your favorite place and be as natural as that place? These photographs are a selection of my answer to this question.
